Setting up Skype for church small groups

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

As our church moves to build relationships and meet one another remotely we’re trying to resource you with some tools to do so.

One popular option for church small group meetings is Skype. Many people already have Skype installed on their Windows computers and you can either meet using a mobile application (app), desktop software, or a web browser (website) based version too.

Setting up a Skype meeting is pretty easy. Follow the below steps for your church small group:

  1. For free, no download meetings, click this link: https://www.skype.com/en/free-conference-call/
  2. Click ‘Create a Free Meeting’ Blue button to the right of your screen.
  3. You’ll then have the ability to ‘Start the Call’ or ‘Share the Invite’.
  4. Sharing the invite allows you to either setup a Gmail email to members of your small group OR you can copy and paste the link and send it via text, Facebook messenger or other messaging applications including email.
  5. Once you choose to ‘Start the Call’ you’ll be able to “Join as a guest” which just requires you to enter your name or if you already have a Skype account you can sign in with that.
  6. Once you’re in the meeting you can still copy and paste the link or invite other users.

One note- remember to try and setup the meeting earlier than the actual meeting time so everyone has a few minutes to connect and get technical issues sorted out.
